Barbecue Sauce with Cynthiana Red Wine

2 cups of water

2/3 cup of catsup

½ cup of red wine vinegar

¼ cup plus 2 tbsps firmly packed dark brown sugar

2 tsp prepared mustard

2 tsps instant minced onion

1 tsp salt (I like to use kosher salt)

½ tsp pepper

½ tsp paprika

¼ cup of Cynthiana red wine

I like to add some chopped onions (about ¼ cup) and some freshly chopped garlic (about 1 or 2 cloves).  This is optional and depends on how much you like onions and garlic!

Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan accept for Cynthiana wine.  Bring mixture to a boil.  If you are going to add the chopped onions and garlic I do it now.  This is also where I add the Cynthiana wine.  Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.  This should yield about 3 cups.

You can put this on brisket, chicken or anything you like barbecue sauce on.  You can also can it and put it in the refrigerator for later use!  This is an easy and tasty recipe!  We always have some sitting in the refrigerator so we can just use it to throw some dinner together quickly!!!
